Blogging metaphors

I found this link via RomanceTracker, it appears that SuccessfulBlog is having a group writing project on blogging metaphors. It basically asks the question, “What do you tell non-bloggers about blogging?” or “What metaphor do you use?”
With this in mind, I’ll go with how I explain blogging to less computer savvy people. I tell them that a blog is basically an open mic for you to speak of whatever you want and voice your opinions on your areas of interest.
Blogging is like comedy.

Think of it this way, if you were a comedian on the stage, telling jokes, if you make the people laugh, they’ll come back and see you again. If they think you weren’t that great, chances are, you probably won’t be seeing them again. Blogging is a lot like that, in a sense. You have to entice your readers in a short period of time, just as comedians don’t have a lot of time to get you to like their act. While people don’t naturally turn to blogs for comedy, they will come back if you’ve intrigued them, sparked their curiousity, or had a really different take on a nifty subject. You’ve also got hecklers, which in blogging, are the people that remove themselves from your RSS feed or stop by and comment something unnecessary on your blog.
What do you think?

What a perfect metaphor! I remember seeing Rodney Dangerfield years ago. Half his act (and the funniest part) was responding to hecklers. So I guess he was a blogger comedian, relying on conversation just as much as prepared material.
