WTF Moment: Do you edit people’s real comments?
If I see a comment on my blog that may be truthful or critiquing my work on the net, I still value the opinion. Because you take the time to leave me a comment, that shows that you care about something that I’ve said.
I never delete or edit comments that come from well-meaning sources that have something intelligent to say.
Keeping that in mind, I heard that DailyWolf was having a contest for a Nintendo Wii….and it was a comment contest. I think he Ashwin Khanna’d us because he awarded the “Wii” to some shady sounding guy. I left this comment:
“Ashwin Khanna anyone?” and here’s what’s there now:
“Wolf, I love your website”. Such BS!
I left a followup comment stating that I did not say that and I called him a retard. I do not like it when people put words in my mouth.
So, if you wanna go to his SUCKY website, then help yourself.

I would be less upset if someone just deleted my comment. But to change it altogether?! That’s insane.

That just sucks. It’s people like that that ruin blogging for a lot of us. I never edit any comments. Such a jerk.

Can you believe this jerk edited the trackback, too?
It says:

[…] the Dailywolf.com is without a doubt, a much better site than mine. I have e-mailed the owner and he was more than happy to provide comments on how to make my site even better. What a great guy! […]
This is just stupid. Trackback removed cuz this guy is a total jerk. This is not how you want the internet to look at you. DUMB!

I went to Dailywolf.com. He sounds like a real animal, hehe. He says some pretty outragious things. I’m going to go again tomorrow to see what he has to say,

I know that if it were happening to me, I wouldn’t be happy about it. But step back for just a minute and imagine it was someone else and not you. Isn’t it kind of funny? In a purely evil way, of course.

No way, people’s words are their own, and I would be bent if anyone “edited” me. I would never change someone’s comment.
By Malin on Sep 29, 2007 | Reply
I never edit comment unless they come from someone suspicious that just want to promot ALL of their websites in the comment.
What a jerk!

I’ve deleted comments and removed spam links before but never changed what someone had to say.
I just can’t help but laugh at this situation. If you don’t like what I have to say, just delete the comment and be done with it. If you are going to edit my comment, don’t be a doofus and write something stupid.
Someone should create a Darwin Award for bloggers.

I’m no longer reading his nonsense. He is stupid and does crap to try to garner attention from other bloggers. He’s an Ashwin Khanna in sheep’s clothing.

I don’t edit people’s comments even if it has grammatical or punctuation errors. I keep it just like it is. I think it is important to keep the message they are trying to express in its true form.

He wants to be careful because what he’s doing is not legal, and if he does it to the wrong person….
I wonder who ‘Laura Graham’ could be….?

The only time I’ve ever not posted a comment was when it was entirely inappropriate for a blog or saying something negative about someone i’ve highlighted that wasn’t constructive. but i never change someones comment.
By WarriorBlog on Sep 29, 2007 | Reply
It is kinda hard to decide but someone link to an inappropriate site or say something immature than yes I might change it…
However, I can get a little evil: If a person have a link to their blog and say something immature or off topic, then I might just leave it so you know…

Deleting a comment can be tolerable but changing it is insane .

I edit comments when they have content but altogether have spam links as well. (just to remove the links) No more, no less.
I agree though that it’s better to delete a comment than editing it completely.
By Pfunk on Oct 1, 2007 | Reply
I agree also. I’ve received some nice comments but they were linked to crazy self-promoting tripe, so I just deleted them.
It doesn’t matter much to me how much ya like my blog if you’re just spam in ‘wolf’s’ clothing.
Yikes, man.

I think she’s a dancer…
By Desty on Oct 2, 2007 | Reply
Sorry, that comment was in respond to Chris’s comment asking who Laura Graham was. If I remember the Bird Cage correctly, she’s a dancer…
Seriously, I agree with Chris. Unless he has a comment disclosure saying that your comments can be modified, could be some real trouble. Andy Beard would be the best to check on that…

That is very honorable of you to not distort other peoples opinions and the truth. I can’t imagine a webmaster doing something like this but I suppose you can’t give people you don’t know too much credit.

his website rocks, way better than this one.

Your right coolchick, his website is rather cool. I don’t even understand why he links to this crappy website.
