Earsucker now has a new look! Upon infiltrating the new music channel on the B5Media network, they’ve given me a new design!

Please take a moment to hop on over to check it out. I’m going to email them shortly to let them know what can be changed, so if any of you have a sec to help me decide what would look better, I’d greatly appreciate it!

Recognition, reaching out, & beyond

Posted on July 12th, 2007 in Networking | 18 Comments »

This post was written to be a part of eMomsAtHome’s Second Group Writing Project. I decided to put this in the mix regarding the topic of Recognizing others’ blog efforts and reaching out to others.

When looking through my archives, I’ve noticed that certain posts have garnered a lot more attention that others. My most commented post is the one when I started the Rockin’ Girl Blogger craze. That post alone got 60 comments and trackbacks. Pretty nifty for a new blog, eh?

My second most commented post was the “face behind the blog” meme. Including doing the actual posting where you let others in on a little bit about yourself, the idea was to pass around the link love. This post received 29 comments by itself.

Do you know what these two posts have in common? Sure, they’re memes, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Both of these ideas got people to talking, commenting, and sharing. The first, got the ladies to pass on the praise and the recognition to other fellow female bloggers who they felt are doing a fantastic job in the blogosphere. The other, got us to open up and give a little bit of a glimpse into the people behind the words. I know that I really enjoy reading about other bloggers. When first talking with other bloggers, I want to know where they’re from and what they do. I ask other questions to see if we have any other similarities, other than blogging. People generally migrate to those with whom they share common interests.

In blogging, I have a tendency to stick around those blogs that have the same central theme as my own. Within my circle, I read what my blogging friends have to say, if I have a genuine interest, then I comment, and if I feel strongly about the subject, I write a post of my own.

How do you build connections?

Earsucker is migrating over to B5Media!

Posted on July 6th, 2007 in Networking | 7 Comments »

Woohoo, this is great news!

My music blog, Earsucker, has been accepted into the B5Media group of outstanding bloggers!

I’ve been blogging on Earsucker since late August 2006, and it has been an awesome experience, taking nothing and turning it into something spectacular. That blog has a page rank of four and is climbing the ladder in content and character.

Thanks for sticking around and reading both of my works :)

8 Facts you didn’t care to know about me…

Posted on July 5th, 2007 in Memes, Networking | 14 Comments »

But I’m telling you anyways….due to the fact that MsDanielle was kind enough to tag me.

Here is how this thing works:

  • * Each player must post these rules to begin the meme.
  • * Each players starts with eight random facts or habits about themselves.
  • * People who get tagged must blog about their eight things and post these rules.
  • * At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
  • * Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.
  • On to the 8 things you didn’t ask, but I’m telling you anways :D

    1. I’m like a walking spellcheck. Seriously, it’s one on my pet peeves when people don’t spell correctly. Use a spellchecker! Ahhhh! (Ok, next…)
    2. I don’t have any pets currently. I used to have a hamster named Dave (after Dave Mustaine of Megadeth), but he died when I was 17.
    3. I am online way too much. I blog a little in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. I think I’m addicted to the internet.
    4. I’m writing a book/novel about stuff I can’t tell you about. It’s going to rock…it’s been about two years in the making so far.
    5. I hate snow. It’s true, I’d love to live somewhere in the south, where it never snows…or where they cancel schools if it snows two or three inches.
    6. I love air conditioning. When the heat gets to be too much (like today), it’s time to turn it on. Woohoo, central air is the best thing ever.
    7. I eat Ramen noodles even though I’m not poor….lol Okay, I know they’re not just for poor folks, but when your Ramen poor, it’s a terrible shame. (Been there, and if you’ve been there, too, then you know what I’m talking about…)
    8. I used to play Everquest like crazy. You do this and suddenly, you have no life. None. I have a level 56 Cleric named Leillanie. She’s awesome.

Now, for the fun part, I get to tag eight other unsuspecting victims, I mean friends.
I’m firstly tagging Bloggrrl, cuz I read her site all of the time, she’s hilarious.

Next on the chopping block, I’m tagging Sassy. She’s hilarious, too…her posts make me laugh and think, which is rare.

Number three goes to Paula at Polliwog’s Pond. She just rocks.

Fourth in the tagging game goes to Jane at Daily Web Ideas. Great design, great new blog name!

My fifth tag goes out to Angie at Suncoast Scribe. Tag, you’re it!

Sixth is all about Donovan. He’s a cool techie guy and a great blogger. He’ll probably respond when he gets back from vacation.

The seventh tag goes to Pfunk. Check out her blog, it’s pretty cool.

And, last, but not least, I tag Aimee at Foximus. You, too, can learn how to do everything, by reading their blog.

    How do you get noticed?

    Posted on July 5th, 2007 in Networking | 7 Comments »

In this day and age, there are tons of people out there starting blogs on every little subject, every niche, and everything you can possibly imagine. If you don’t believe me, google any search term using their Blog Search, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Being original is a hard task to take on and in it you might find yourself reading other people’s work and being inspired. Inspiration comes from many places and when the time comes, jump on it!

I came up with the Rockin’ Girl Bloggers idea not to get noticed, but to spread some of the love for the ladies out there that work hard on their blogs. It worked in both ways. Not only did I start something fabulous that the ladies out there took and ran with, but I got noticed, as well. People who otherwise wouldn’t have heard my name prior to that day, now know me as that Rockin’ chick who started that badge thing…(or something similiar, I’m sure).

In this wide world of a blogosphere, we have the professionals, the blogging middle class, and the working class stiffs. I’m a part of the working class stiffs….by that I mean that I have a day job, but still manage to post regularly here. The professionals, like Darren Rowse, Seth Godin, and John Chow, won’t notice you, if you stay under the radar. They are not gods. I’ve emailed Darren and gotten a nice quick reply. He answers his emails and reads other blogs, as well. I’m sure sometimes they run out of inspiration as well.

Why not make a blip on their radar? Go on over to Problogger or John’s page and leave a comment or two. Make it thoughtful and in synch with the topic. Let the big guys know you’re out there. They may have high ranking blogs, but they are people, too, just like you and me.

Better yet, maybe stay in your own community and comment on smaller blogs. The point is to get your name out there. Do something special. Nominate others for something really cool. Link to others and spread the love around. Start a really cool meme. Start a blog contest. As long as it’s something that gets the readers involved, then it’s only going to benefit everyone involved.

What do you do to get noticed? Do you want to be noticed?

    Free ReviewMe at CashForComments!

    Posted on June 27th, 2007 in Networking | 2 Comments »

I found this blog site through MsDanielle’s blog, which is pretty nifty. Mr. P is running a free ReviewMe at CashForComments, for posting five comments on his blog. This is an innovative idea, because it encourages people to come on over to his blog and comment.

After you’ve done your five comments, he gives you a 100-word review of your blog. I did this to figure out what I could change to make this blog better, and get some feedback. After the free ReviewMe is up, he’ll head back over to your blog and post five legitimate comments.

    Thanks Mr. P! :D What a great idea, I wish I would’ve thought of this first..hehe
